I am glad to report we got our one-hundred thousandth signature last night.  We are currently at 105,000. I've gotten calls already from one of the country's leading newspapers, and also an international news agency today.  So we'll see what happens. I really believe that we can and should get a million. Here is last night's live stream about all of this (It's short).  Now is a really good time for you to reach out to a couple of reporters that you know, and let them know about this.  Now is also exactly the right time to put some serious time into helping us get the link to this petition everywhere that you can think of on the internet where student loan borrowers will see it.  

Congressional Stimulus Package

We'll see Congress pass a $2 Trillion stimulus package today (to go with the $3 Trillion that has already been thrown at the economy by the Federal Reserve.  While there were a lot of nice articles about student loan cancellation, and a lot of hopeful sounding plans coming from the media, we student loan borrowers will barely be helped by this legislation.  Frankly, there is almost nothing in this legislation beyond the interest rate suspension that was announced a couple of weeks ago. Here are the bullet points: 

-Borrowers will be allowed to defer their payments for 6 months without interest accrual. They apparently still would have to contact their lender, and apply for this. This time would still count as monthly payments for borrowers trying for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

-Businesses are allowed to make payments on employee's student loans without that amount being taxed as income.

-The Department of Education will stop collection activities against defaulted borrowers for 60 Days. They have also "asked" their contracted collection companies to do the same.

That's it folks. Pretty much what the president already announced. There is still an open question as to whether the deferment is automatic or not.   Also, if your loans are in default, you almost certainly will not get a stimulus check, due to the IRS offset.

MAKE NO MISTAKE FOLKS:  The head of the student loan program, himself, said that the lending system is "fundamentally broken", and that loans would have to be cancelled across the board, as well as bankruptcy protections being returned to all non-federal loans.  He said it is time to completely reset the system, and come up with a better model.  

That gentleman, btw, is a republican.  And a Trump appointee! His name is A Wayne Johnson, and he is running for senate in Georgia.  I spoke with him for over an hour on Tuesday. I can count the number of republicans that we have fought for on exactly two fingers.  Wayne Johnson is one. I am asking that everyone in Georgia will join our Georgia state chapter group.  The election is in October and there are twenty candidates in the field.  We can singlehandedly put Wayne in office. That will send a VERY strong message to President Trump that he needs to CANCEL THESE LOANS!  See the live stream I did about this last night!
