Petition updateChildren don't belong in cagesInjunction halts family separation, but not family detention
Kids In Need of Defense

This week a federal judge in California ordered a halt to most family separations at the U.S. border and the reunification of families who have been separated under the administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy. However this order does not stop the administration from expanding family incarceration and it does not halt the criminal prosecutions of parents that cross between ports of entry. In fact, the White House has already requested that the Pentagon prepare beds for an additional 12,000 migrants, many of them to be housed in tent camps. Meanwhile, the process of family reunification has begun. KIND has staff at the border monitoring the process, but it’s unclear how long it will take for all children to be placed again with their parents. We’ll update you when we have more information, but now we need to spread the word that family detention is not the answer to family separation.
