By signing this I hope to get President Trump to release funding to state rehabs that are turning addicts away daily due to no funding and I'm addressing the new “Veterans Administration Mission Act” Trump just signed and how they will suffer due to more cutbacks with their medication in milligrams only worsening the heroin crisis! The country has an all time epidemic death toll that continues to rise! If you are reading this either you or you know has been touched by this horrible deadly health crisis sweeping across America. It is overdose deaths that in 2016 reached 64,000! Drug overdose is now the #1 leading cause of death in people under the age of 50 years old!! More Americans died of drug overdoses in 2016 than died in the entirety of  the Vietnam War! 2017 is estimated to be worse! I can tell you the rate things are going, if there is not immediate change in 2018 the deaths will be catastrophic. No family or no-one is immune to being affected by this! Trump Declared the Opioid Crisis a ‘Health Emergency’ but Requests No Funds! Right now all across the country, many addicts/users especially heroin are seeking state/based on income rehab only to be told there is nothing available or to come clean and pass a drug test! If there is availability they are told funding has been cut and there is no more detox programs in the rehabs! This is insanity! Detox is a very vital part of many addicts success and many times a medical must! If you take benzos or alcohol one can not cold turkey stop, it can kill them! In the midst of the worst drug epidemic death crisis funds are not being made available to rehabs for detox programs, enough is enough! This must stop and now! I am calling for President Trump to remember and take immediate action on releasing funds toward the opioid crisis which is truly heroin/china fentanyl! True pain patients including cancer patients, I being one cold turkey took off my meds hearing about the DEA, have been left to suffer by meds being took which led to the heroin epidemic. Numbers don't lie, when war was waged on opiate pills, they were cut, decreased substantially yet the opiate deaths went all time high due to heroin/fentanyl. I see President Trump just signed into law, the “Veterans Administration Mission Act”. The Initiative is built around a 191-page Clinical Practice Guideline with four complex and confusing flowcharts that physicians must implement. But there is a bottom line in this confusion. Even if non-opioid therapy has been ineffective in managing pain, VA doctors must now “manage with non-opioid modalities”. Legacy patients long treated with high-dose opioids must be tapered to below 90 Morphine Milligram Equivalent per day – even if assessed risks of opioids are outweighed by benefits. And any doctor in private practice who treats veterans must do the same! Does anyone not see that all the focus on continuing to hammer down on controlled pain medication and patients does nothing to help the heroin epidemic! Is anyone not aware how many are commiting suicide due to being left in pain not treated or due to addiction! Trump it is a Health Emergency! Funding needs given now for detox in rehabs! The troops already fought they shouldn't have to fight for their medication they need because suddenly 90mg becomes a magical cut off! The DEA and government should not get in between a patient and their doctor not to the point it has! If we are going to get this crisis controlled and save lives then the energy needs to be put in the right place! I wander when Washington will look at Portuguese as the role model of what to do for the drug epidemic, what they did worked more than any country! Addiction is a health crisis not criminal but that is for another petition! Right now we need funding for income based/state rehabs to save lives!
