Stop Unnecessary Dog Breed Bans on US Military Bases

This petition had 1,803 supporters

Currently dog breed restrictions are being unnecessarily enforced at many United States military base housing installments. These restrictions are based on breed alone, even when individual dogs have no history of agression or violent behavior. As many animal experts know, this is a false representation of specific breeds. Our military families are forced to make heart breaking choices when being sent to their next assignment. These choices would either lead them to re-homing or surrendering their fur-family members or lead them to further housing issues if they decide to keep their pets and look for housing off base. Many property management companies also have to follow pet restrictions which can limit the available housing inventory for our military families. If nothing is available, they end up having to purchase a home, a home which they will have to leave a few years after purchasing which could be financially stressful in certain market conditions. While we should absolutely protect our military bases from agressive animals, this regulation has become almost a dictatorship blanket decision where there are no exceptions, no matter how friendly the animal is. Our military families sacrifice a lot to serve their country, why should they unnecessarily have to suffer financial hardship or the loss of a loved family pet because of a false narrative that labels their breed as “agressive”?
