Support Voting Representation and Statehood for the District of Columbia

The Issue

On July 14, 2015, DC At-Large Councilmember Vincent Orange (D), introduced the “Sense of the Council in Support of a ‘Statehood or Else’ Signature Campaign of 2015."

The goal of the campaign is to collect one million signatures from U.S. citizens from all across the country, which will be delivered to the President of the United States of America, all 535 members of Congress, as well as to the leadership of the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee at their respective conventions in July 2016.

Please sign the below petition in support of voting representation and statehood for the District of Columbia. Together, we can make the District of Columbia the 51st State.

We, the undersigned citizens of the United States of America, hereby sign this petition urging the President of the United States and the members of Congress to support Statehood and voting representation for the 658,893 residents of the District of Columbia who collectively pay more than three billion dollars ($3B) in federal taxes each year, and where two hundred thousand (200,000) brave District resident men and women have served in the United States Armed Forces defending, fighting, and two thousand (2,000) of them dying, for our beloved country, yet have no voting representation in Congress. We believe this to be a true denial of democracy to the residents of the nation's capital, Washington, DC, and the citizens of the United States of America.
