Hi everyone,
There has been a lot of excitement and anticipation this last day or two regarding the Children and Family Relationships Act 2015. By this, we mean that it is very much in the minds of our Ministers, TDS and Senators that the loopholes in current legislation need to be fixed as a matter of urgency.
People all around have been applying pressure to Minister for Health, Simon Harris to speak about this in the Dáil and to speak to families who have been affected by the delay in implementing Parts 2, 3 and 9 of the Act.
TheTimes.co.uk today stated that Simon Harris hopes to bring the legislation before the cabinet as soon as next week with a view to having it introduced before summer recess, meaning that same sex couples will be able to have both parents listed on their baby’s birth certificate. The Times also started that as there is no opposition to the measure, it is expected to pass quickly.
If you are wondering what you can do at this point in time, we suggest emailing your local TDs and telling them your story (if you are affected) or telling them that this delay has greatly impacted people you know or telling them why you strongly believe that these loopholes should be corrected. If you have time you can call your local TD offices and ask them to apply pressure to Mr Harris to answer questions about the delays in the Dáil.
We firmly believe that we are heading in a positive direction and that with the right approach, firm but amiable, we can achieve what we set out to achieve.
We look forward to seeing what the next few weeks bring and we welcome any positive changes. If you’re not affected personally then be an ally for those who are.
