TD Paul Murphy raised the issues surrounding the CFRA 2015 in the Dáil today. He raised his concerns with Minister Catherine Zappone (Min for Children) who after relaying the same copy and paste document we have all received time and time again, announced that a statement from Simon Harris (Min. For Health) is imminent. How long a period the government consider to be ‘imminent’ is unknown given that when we first discovered the lack of rights our daughter had (when we tried to take her travelling at 3 months), implementation of various parts of the Act where at that point ‘imminent.’ She’s now almost two years old.
We’ve attached a link for you to watch TD Paul Murphy address the Minister.

We are also delighted to share with you that the Ombudsman for Children has written to Minister Simon Harris calling on him to address the concerns surrounding the Act. We feel that this is a very important time to apply pressure! So if you can, please write to the Ministers or contact your local TDs and help get this fixed.
We attended a meeting in Mountjoy Sq on Sunday past and we’re delighted to meet some lovely people there, some of who had signed this petition and who we look forward to meeting again. We also got the opportunity to ask questions to a barrister and a solicitor also which has been most helpful.
We are able to apply to the district court, once Cammie turns 2, to have Lesley listed as guardian which will at least mean that Lesley will have the right to part take in decisions about education, childcare, medical care etc. It will also mean that we can apply for Cammie’s passport. This postition of guardian is just for the interim. The overall goal for us is to get Lesley recognised as a full and equal parent and for Cammie to have her corrected birth certificate.
Even after all is said and done we must continue to fight for other same sex parents who have even more hoops to jump through than we do.
Together we will fix this mess.
