The Governor of the state of California signed into law, AB96 to ban the trade of all ivory and rhino horn in California with some exceptions. The bill's author, Toni G. Atkins, Speaker of the Assembly, and principal co-author Senator Ricardo Lara deserve our thanks and congratulations for recognizing the importance of such legislation and getting it passed through the state senate and assembly. Governor Brown also deserves our thanks for having the wisdom to recognize that with California and New York leading the U.S. in the sale of ivory and rhino horn, we cannot wait for the federal government alone to enact laws to protect our world heritage, that it can and must be done at the state, local level. http://www.humanesociety.org/news/news_briefs/2015/10/ca-ivory-bill-signed-100415.html?credit=web_id93480558
