"The Obama administration has proposed strong new rules to protect elephants by cracking down on the ivory trade in the US. The public comment period on these draft regulations ends on Monday, Sept 28, 2015, and if thousands of us submit comments in favor of these rules, there’s a great chance they’ll be adopted." -Avaaz.org However, the NRA has implemented a coordinated effort to stop the ban on ivory being proposed by the Obama Administration. If we can gather enough comments for a ban on ivory at the U.S.F.W.S public comment page regarding this issue, we may have a chance to save the elephant. It's up to all of us. Please follow the link and post a comment in support of a ban on ivory in the U.S. The following is important to refer to when writing: Tens of thousands of elephants are killed every year by poachers hoping to profit from the global ivory trade. I support strong new regulations to shut down the trade in ivory. Stopping the ivory trade here in the US will help protect countless elephants in the wild. The US should be a leader in the global fight to protect elephants and other species threatened by poaching. Terrorism is directly connected to the ivory trade. If we stop the ivory trade in the U.S (and elsewhere), we will help stop the funding of terrorists organizations. Even if you only write a few sentences in support of a ban, this would be helpful as it would show support for this essential act before it is too late. This is particularly important because elections will be taking place soon in the U.S., and a new administration is an unknown quantity in terms of how it will regard these important issues of elephant and rhino conservation, particularly, and conservation generally.
