State of California legislators have passed an important piece of legislation recognizing the urgent need to strengthen loopholes in laws affecting elephants and rhinos. California is a leading importer of ivory and rhino horn. With increased awareness of the poaching crisis, state assembly members have just passed a bill which aims to make it harder for poachers to ultimately find a market for ivory and rhino horn in California. The bill now goes to the state senate where hopefully it will be passed and then sent to Governor Jerry Brown's desk for signing. If you reside in California, please contact your state senator to urge him or her to pass AB96 when it reaches the senate.
