Greetings,
Many thanks to all who have supported the #ParksAndGardens campaign. It is fantastic that people from different walks of life, backgrounds, ages, living in different countries, have come together to advocate for the protection of public spaces in Accra.
We thank all the journalists, including veterans Cameron Duodu and Ajoa Yeboah-Afari, have supported the campaign in their articles.
The petition is gaining momentum!
Genesis 2:15 tells us that: "The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it." God did not place us in the garden of concrete! This should tell us that trees and greenery are key to our well-being, and the indiscriminate felling of trees and destruction of our forests must stop.
We are pleased that the Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast, the Most Reverend Charles G. Palmer-Buckle (Nuumo Osofo Nukpa), former Archbishop of Accra, has been supportive of the campaign and signed the online petition.
The wider campaign seeks to protect open spaces in Accra. We are still waiting for Lands Commission to furnish us with the list of areas designated as parks and open spaces in Accra. We have been informed that the list is ready and waiting to be signed off.
Please contact us if you would like a timeline of events regarding our #ParksAndGardens campaign.
Watch this space.
