As an environmentalist and green technologist, living in West Bengal, I have always believed in sustainable development that safeguards our forests, ecosystems, and biodiversity. Watching the deforestation unfolding around us is heart-wrenching. The balance between deforestation and afforestation is alarmingly skewed in our beloved state. This not only impacts our local environment but contributes to global warming and climate change on a broader scale. I firmly believe that what I call 'GREEN MURDER' is an environmental crime, demanding our urgent attention and action.

West Bengal's forests are rapidly disappearing due to various factors such as agricultural expansion, infrastructure development, illegal logging, and the harrowing effects of climate change, particularly in the Sundarbans region. These actions are putting immense pressure on our ecosystems, threatening our rich biodiversity, and disrupting the delicate ecological balance. It is imperative to halt these losses and start a recovery process.

One effective solution is to utilize open wastelands across the state to develop dense forests. I propose the adoption of the Miyawaki method, a proven technique for creating thriving biodiverse forests in small spaces, often within just 400 square meters. This method not only facilitates rapid growth of native vegetation but also restores ecological balance and enhances biodiversity significantly.

We must urge the West Bengal government to take swift action in implementing these strategies. By adopting the Miyawaki method across the state, we can simultaneously combat deforestation, enrich our wildlife habitats, and fight against the forces driving climate change.
