Statement by Councillor Matthew Robertson supporting preserving Trumper Park for tennis only

I am very pleased to let you know that Councillor Matthew Robertson, who is seeking re-election as the lead candidate for the Greens in Paddington Ward, has provided this statement about his position on Trumper Park Tennis Centre:

"If re-elected I commit to putting a rescission motion to the first Council meeting of the next term. This rescission motion will respond to community concerns and change Council's decision of June 2024 to ensure that the tender for the Trumper Park tennis courts will be exclusively for tennis across all courts. This will close off the possibility for multi-use sports including Pickleball. I am committed to bringing this rescission in response to:

1. The large number of submissions I have received to date requesting the retention of tennis as the sole use at Trumper Park, including considerable detail about how the tennis club serves and enhances the sense of community and social connection for many locals. 

2. The data presented to me about the high-levels of usage of all courts at Trumper Park at present 

3. The increased acoustic impacts related to multi-use sports including Pickleball to very proximate neighboring residential properties 

4. The availability of under-utilised facilities for multi-use sports including Pickleball, as close by as the Entertainment Quarter at Centennial Park. "

This is very welcome news to everyone who has signed the petition and sent emails to Matthew Robertson and the other Councillors. It shows the community's voice is being heard.  We need to continue our campaign to persuade more candidates for election to adopt the same position as Councillor Robertson , Councillor Merrill Witt and candidate Alexander Andruska , so that a majority of the newly elected Councillors will vote to change the Council's decision in June 2024 to ensure that the tender for Trumper Park tennis centre will be exclusively for tennis across all courts.
