The Issue

Thornhaven Manor has been a captivating part of my family's life for the past 10 years. From the moment we first heard about its rich history, my family and I were enthralled and began a journey to uncover every detail about this historic landmark. We've visited numerous times, captured countless photos, and immersed ourselves in TV episodes, YouTube documentaries, and podcasts dedicated to Thornhaven. One of our most unforgettable and ongoing experiences includes my daughter, who has a spirital gift, connecting with Lizzie, a little girl spirit residing in the manor. This unique ability allowed her to describe the house's setup with extraordinary detail, knowledge that isn't publicly available. How she died and how the house was decorated. My daughter told the owner Steve Miller one year during a visit at Halloween and he was extremely impressed by her knowledge and when we told him how she knew he became speechless and even more impressed.

Thornhaven Manor, located at 2172 S. Spiceland RD, New Castle, Indiana, was built in 1845 by Simon T. Powell, a man whose influence once echoed through Henry County. An exemplar of Italianate architecture, this grand house was constructed on 7 acres and stood as the largest residence in the county at the time. Renowned for both its architectural beauty and its status as a hub of alleged paranormal activity, its historical importance cannot be understated.

However, this magnificent structure is now in a state of deterioration, threatening to erase a piece of our community’s history. It is imperative that we take immediate action to preserve this manor for future generations to explore and enjoy.

The preservation of Thornhaven Manor is not just about safeguarding a building. It involves preserving the stories, memories, and cultural heritage of our community. Supporting rehabilitation and conservation efforts would ensure that this historic house inspires and educates visitors and locals alike.

I urge the New Castle community, history enthusiasts, and paranormal aficionados to join me in advocating for the preservation of Thornhaven Manor. Through fundraising, awareness campaigns, and perhaps seeking grants dedicated to historic preservation, we can ensure this treasured landmark is restored to its former glory.

By signing this petition, you are supporting efforts to ensure Thornhaven Manor not only survives, but thrives, enriching our community both culturally and historically. Help us protect this precious piece of New Castle’s heritage for future generations.
