Preserve the Mature London Plane Trees in San Francisco

Preserve the Mature London Plane Trees in San Francisco
The Issue
As a resident deeply affected by this societal predicament, I am voicing out. San Francisco's Bureau of Urban Forestry/Department of Public Works (DPW) recently posted tree removal notices targeting the community's healthy and mature London Plane trees, wreaking havoc and stirring anger among neighbors and local merchants. These trees, approximately 120 in the targeted areas, represent a vital part of our community's landscape and environmental well-being. According to the latest tree census, an estimated 8,700 mature London Plane trees are planted across the city, underscoring their prominence and value in the urban fabric of San Francisco. These are not just trees; they are symbols of our heritage, the lungs of our city, and integral to the community's aesthetic and planetary health. Removal of such precious life forms negatively impacts our mental wellbeing, the city's biodiversity, and overall climate resilience. We cannot stand idle as these arboreal treasures face an imminent threat. Together, we call upon the Bureau of Urban Forestry/Department of Public Works to cease and desist from the planned removal. We urge them to value and protect our city's natural beauty and the health of our community. Sign this petition to save the mature London Plane trees in San Francisco.
