Preserve the Mason's Arms as a Cherished Local Music Venue
The Issue
I am a resident living near the Mason's Arms, a beloved local music venue that is an integral part of our community and has been standing as a public house since the 1600's. Many of us in the neighbourhood appreciate and enjoy its existence, especially the music events, without any cause for complaint. The Mason's Arms also contributes to charity through their various events. Thousands have been raised for charities including Andy's Man Club, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Prince of Wales Hospice.
The pub was also presented with a Community Pub of the Year award by CAMRA in 2023, after being voted to have been the most community focused, being used as a community hub for many local charity events such as the Ackworth Pram Race.
The Mason's Arms has been providing an essential platform for bands and local musicians to perform, always mindful of neighbours and has never had an issue with complaints previously. This venue is more than just a pub; it is a cultural hub where music lovers gather, artists find their voice, and charities benefit from fundraising events.
Unfortunately, this cherished institution is under threat due to a recent noise abatement notice which could prevent live music performances. This would be detrimental not only to our community and the business, but also to the vibrant local music scene that we have all come to love.
According to UK Music’s annual report (2019), grassroots venues like Mason’s Arms play a crucial role in nurturing new talent, contributing £1.1 billion annually towards the economy and supporting 30,000 jobs across the country. We cannot underestimate their importance or allow them to be silenced.
We urge you all who value local culture, community spirit and live music performance spaces like The Mason's Arms - sign this petition! Let us stand together in preserving these vital cultural hubs for future generations of musicians and fans alike.
