The Issue

My innate guide, Prof Chaman Lal inspired us to call upon the attention of the Bihar Government, the local populace of Gaya, and relevant jail authority for a moment of reawakening. This concerns a historical site of remarkable significance whose detector has been lost in time. Inside the gallows of the GAYA CENTRAL JAIL, a chapter of our glorious fight for independence silently makes its presence felt - this was where Baikunth Shukla bravely embraced a martyr's death.

Baikunth Shukla, the avenger of Bhagat Singh's denouncement, struck down the prominent traitor Phanindra Ghosh in Bettiah, Bihar, with fellow revolutionary Chandrama Singh—and hence met his end within these walls on 14th May 1933, one day shy of his birthday. Further enriching the momentous worth of this setting is the life imprisonment sentence of Chandrama Singh that unfolded here.

Despite the significant historical essence imbued within these very walls, no effort has been made to commemorate or uphold its value as an iconic landmark of our struggle for freedom. Beautiful, poignant narratives of valor such as these lay undiscussed, their dense understanding frequented by none.

It is time we change that. It is time we remember, honor, and hold with pride the place where our heroes bravely laughed at death. It is an hour of awakening not just for the Bihar Government but for all of us as citizens. The proposal stands thus: we must construct a monument or memorial at this site, a beacon to future generations about the price our forefathers paid for our independence.

The plea here is simple, it is strong, and it is loud.

  • Let us not fade into oblivion the heroic sacrifices of our brave sons of India. Let's honor Baikunth Shukal, Chandrama Singh, and the countless others who dared to defy the establishment for the motherland.
  • Sign this petition now. Let us awaken the echoes of the past and carry their resilience forward.
