The following is the Dauphin Rail Museum's response to statements made by the Mayor and published in an article by the Dauphin Herald on April 8th, 2025. This article was in response an op-ed written by Jason Gilmore, the President of the Dauphin Rail Museum, titled "What value can be placed on preserving our history?" regarding the efforts to preserve Manitoba's last remaining steam era rail turntable.
We have requested to meet with Ron Kostyshyn, MLA for Dauphin regarding this preservation effort but have not heard back from their office.
There are several options going forward that are being explored which include the full removal and relocation of the turntable closer to the Dauphin Rail Station or creation of an off site memorial to the turntable consisting of a portion of the artifact.
