Victory! The County Commissioners Voted Tonight to DENY the Application

I am pleased to announce that the Brevard County Commission voted tonight to DENY the application to rezone 14.37 acres of RR-1 residential land (one acre home sites) to RU-1-11 (up to 57 units or four per acre) citing the impact to the character of the surrounding homesites.
I want to thank all of my Lake Washington and Melbourne neighbors for uniting around this effort to protect and preserve the zoning character of our special community. I could not attend tonight’s zoning hearing in person, but my heart and spirit was united with everyone.
Since early June, we gathered over 5,500 signatures between our two online petitions and our paper petitions, posted 250 lawn signs across our community, distributed postcards, spoke on Viewpoint With Seeta and Friends AM 1510 WWBC, engaged with Florida Today’s Jim Waymer and Greg Palumbo of Spectrum 13 News, and engaged our officials including Chairman Thad Altman and Melbourne Mayor Paul Alfrey and Vice Mayor Julie Kennedy via phone, email and in person.
Thank you all for your unwavering dedication and support. A special thanks to the core team of people Wendy Browning, Erika Allen, Suzanne Bellah, Debra Jo Thompson, Keith Kowalske, and others including my neighbors Seeta Durjan Begui who devoted a ton of time to drive our advocacy campaign.
Not only have we succeeded in our effort to protect our community, but it has united the members of our Lake Washington community like never before. Thank you!
