Why we need residents to sign this petition

FACTS

1.2017 state government announcement to undertake a pilot program to deliver 100 new social housing dwellings on government owned land in established suburbs. In addition to social housing, the program was also to deliver a mix of affordable and market housing. Six suburbs were chosen by the state government where surplus government land existed and was suitable for development of this kind. One of these sites was 30-40 Athol Road, Noble Park, which was previously occupied by Southvale Primary School.

2. no further detailed information on this proposal until February 2023,

It was primarily raised concern with the lack of detail provided in the Development Plan Overlay, including detail on the extent of inclusionary housing to be provided on site, and concerns regarding the layout, Environmental Sustainable Design , open space, stormwater, and potential contamination on site.

4. Rezone the site from Public Use Zone Schedule 2 Education (PUZ2) to the General Residential Zone Schedule 1 (GRZ1). Apply a new Development Plan Overlay Schedule 17 (DPO17) to the site. Apply the Environmental Audit Overlay (EAO) to the site. Amend the Schedule to Clause 72.01 Responsible authority for this Planning Scheme to make the Minister for Planning the responsible authority for the site.

5. the Minister for Planning will be the decision maker for the development plan and future planning permit applications for the site

In recent years this small south west pocket of CGD has lost 6 school sites ( Technical school, Secondary school , 4 primary school sites ) only 2 remain vacant at the moment- Maralinga and Southvale. So, increase the local population and where do we educate these children who live in apartments, who now attend kinder and child care in 2 storey facilities and attend schools that are having to build multi storey classrooms and one local school even has artificial turf throughout the whole of their school grounds. Children are no longer allowed to have nature play because of lack of space.

Keysborough Sec College now over over 2 campuses ( 4 secondaries became 2 secondaries in 2008)  both campuses are in walking distance of Southvale and Maralinga sites are at capacity

Athol Road PS just up the road from Southvale site is at capacity,

There is no more suitable land for new schools in CGD any land vacant is contaminated
