Preserve Parking at the State Boat Launch in Hudson, NY

Preserve Parking at the State Boat Launch in Hudson, NY
The Issue
Boaters and anglers, help STOP NYS from limiting our parking and access to the boat launch. Where will you park? The new design for the Hudson boat launch will severely limit parking for trucks and trailers.
The issue of parking also includes our local first responders who often report to the boat launch parking lot in emergencies. These men and women keep us safe on the water and are quick to help in an emergency. It could be detrimental to their response time to have to park far away.
As a passionate angler and boater who has spent countless weekends enjoying the Hudson River, I am deeply concerned about New York State's plan to eliminate parking at the state boat launch in Hudson. This decision will affect not just me, but many others who rely on this facility for access to our beloved river.
The parking lot is often full on weekends, indicating its high usage by anglers and pleasure boaters alike. It serves as a vital access point for individuals and families seeking to enjoy the natural beauty of the river. Eliminating it would create significant barriers for those wishing to engage with this important local resource.
According to data from The American Sportfishing Association (ASA), recreational fishing contributes significantly to our economy. In New York alone, it generates $2.1 billion in annual retail sales and supports over 19,000 jobs (ASA report 2018). By making access more difficult through eliminating parking facilities at popular launching sites like ours in Hudson, we risk losing these economic benefits along with our cherished pastime.
We urge NYS officials not only consider these economic implications but also value our community's connection with nature that such facilities enable us to maintain. We ask them not just as officials but as fellow citizens who understand how much this means to us all.
Please sign this petition if you believe that preserving parking at the state boat launch in Hudson is crucial for maintaining both local recreational activities and broader economic benefits.
