A New Threat Has Arrived: A Gondola/Cable Car Proposal in Kilbroney Forest Park

On May 28th, 2025 Newry Mourne & Down District Council announced plans for a gondola/cable car in Kilbroney Park—an idea that already failed at Thomas Quarry in Newcastle.

We’ve asked for basic information. The council has refused to provide it. This project is being developed behind closed doors—without your input and without your consent. It is part funded by the Belfast City Regional Deal but the rest will be paid for by you, the ratepayer.

What’s Really Going On:

❌ No Consultation: No community meetings. No surveys. No local voices heard.
❌ No Transparency: No route details, no environmental assessments, no costings.
❌ Refused Information: FOI requests denied. Why the secrecy? What are they hiding?

This is not engagement - it is exclusion.

Kilbroney Park belongs to all of us—not developers, not consultants, and not people working in the shadows. It’s a place of peace, beauty, and community—and we will fight to protect it.

They want silence. We’re going to give them people power. 

Let them see a community that won’t back down.
