Preserve Cubbon Park as a Public Space by maintaining Traffic-Free Sundays and Holidays
The Issue
We hear GoK now wants to bring back traffic all 7 days a week through Cubbon Park? Cubbon Park has been the heart of Bangalore with over 100 acres of green space, serving not just as a park, but also a sanctuary and an oasis amidst the bustling city. This remarkable urban retreat is loved and cherished by all Bangaloreans - rich or poor, young or old. It is a place where families come to play, citizens come to relax, and different groups unite to recharge from their hectic lives amidst the park's bountiful beauty and biodiversity. The freshness of the air in Cubbon Park is an important source of well-being for our urban dwellers.
The Park comes alive with its citizens on Sundays and holidays, as it’s safe and accessible with no traffic. It’s a privilege we treasure. It’s a right we deserve . It should not be taken away.
But we hear that there are plans afoot to bring back traffic from 8 am-10 am on ALL days including Sat, Sun and public holidays. An IISC report shows that traffic doesn’t improve much with access through Cubbon Park. Secondly, since govt, offices and the High Court is anyway closed on these days, where is the office traffic that needs this access? Shocking that our beloved sanctuary, our Cubbon Park is being callously treated as a mere thoroughfare, just a means to an end. Is public good offset by the roar of traffic or one VIP moving faster? The tranquility is disrupted by the roar of traffic, posing risks and eliminating the sense of safety and relaxation on Sundays and public holidays. Where will the children go? The question is: Shouldn't the public need for a safe haven surpass the need of a few cars passing through?
Cubbon Park's tranquility and centrality need to be preserved. Its traffic-free status on Sundays and holidays is not just an advantage, but a necessity for the well-being of all Bangaloreans. Let us work together to ensure that Cubbon Park continues to be the green heart of Bangalore, without the danger and roar of traffic on these specific days.
We request our elected leaders, government officials and the public to look at this issue closely and reject ANY move to bring back traffic on holidays. Our citizens surely deserve better . invite everyone who cherishes Cubbon Park to join us in this important cause. By signing this petition, you can contribute to preserving the tranquillity of Cubbon Park for future generations. Please, show your support and sign the petition to keep Cubbon Park traffic-free on Sundays and public holidays.
Go around not through the park.
We deserve it. Our Cubbon Park deserves it.
