In November 2022, a devastating tragedy occurred when Jennifer's only daughter, Avery, was tragically struck by a train running through Memorial Park. There were no warning signs to alert her of the impending danger. In memory of Avery, a tree in the park has become a symbol of her life and spirit. This tree is regularly visited by children from junior high and high school who come to remember Avery and leave memories.

However, there are concerns that the decorations left at this memorial site may be removed. The removal would not only erase an important symbol for those mourning Avery but could also lead them closer to the dangerous train tracks where the tragic incident occurred.

We believe it is crucial for this memorial to remain untouched as it provides solace for those grieving and serves as an important reminder about safety near railways. According to Operation Lifesaver, approximately 2,100 North Americans are killed or seriously injured each year due to rail-related incidents (Operation Lifesaver Inc., 2021). It is essential that we maintain spaces like these that remind us of such dangers while providing comfort for those affected.
