Preserve and Promote the Welsh Language
The Issue
As an Englishman who retired to Nefyn in North Wales four years ago, I found myself immersed in a rich and vibrant culture. Despite knowing no Welsh upon my arrival, I made the decision to learn this beautiful language. The support and encouragement I received from the community were overwhelming, opening up numerous cultural lessons for me.
The Welsh language is more than just a means of communication; it's an integral part of Wales' identity. However, it's facing challenges that threaten its survival.
According to recent news from HSBC, the Bank has, without any consultation with the Senedd, MPs, or local communities, close its Welsh telephone services. All telephone advisors will now speak only in English.
What about those people who don't either speak or can communicate effectively in English. What are they to do? They have already seen most of their local branches close and only have telephone banking left.
How long before other Banks and Organisations decide to do the same thing. It is disgusting to think that a Bank can wipe away a country's identity with no regards to its culture, people and language.
We need your help to reverse this trend. By signing this petition, you're supporting efforts to preserve and promote the use of the Welsh language across all sectors - from education and business to entertainment and media.
Let us ensure that future generations can enjoy learning about our culture through our native tongue as much as I have enjoyed learning it during my retirement here in Nefyn. Please sign this petition today!
