Preserve a Metra F40PH-2

The Issue

The EMD F40PH-2 is a variation of the F40PH, a four-axle diesel electric locomotive. The F40PH-2 was first built for the Regional Transportation Authority for use on their Union Pacific lines. These engines were numbered 150-172. Metra (the commuter rail division of the RTA) bought 11 more. (numbered 173-184) The F40PH-2 has a few minor differences from the original F40PH

The F40PH-2s are loved by many railfans and should be preserved as they are a symbol of commuter rail in Chicago

These locomotives are planned to be replaced by the SD70MACHs and 10 are already retired

All of the F40PH-2s may be scrapped in the future if nothing happens, so we should attempt to preserve one of these before it’s too late.
