The Puguis Communal Forest at La Trinidad, Benguet, some forty one hectares or more, is a vital source of water in the municipality. It is a major source of oxygen, responsible in cooling much of the town, a carbon sink for greenhouse gasses, an ecological education habitat and an inspiration for many. For more than thirty years, different sectors of the public--young and old, women and men, from the public and private--planted mostly pine trees and created the communal forest. Today it is threatened. Unscrupulous persons are selling parts of the forest, squatters are setting in and trees are being cut. This has to stop. It threatens a lifeline of all residents in the municipality.

We call on our beloved Pres. Rody Duterte and DENR Sec. Gina Lopez to please stop this madness once and for all as the local government is handicapped in putting a stop to this ecological destruction. We call on all residents and non-residents of La Trinidad alike to help us avert this blatant violation of nature's sacredness and of our laws especially PD 705 by signing this petition.
