We have long complained about the lack of transparency in the process regarding this sprawl plan that aims to destroy almost 2000 acres of the best farmland in Canada and pump 11 million litres PER DAY of treated effluent (sewage) into a globally rare wetland full of rare, sensitive and endangered species. In particular, we're concerned with the Environmental Assessment that, to our understanding, is expected to claim that there will not be any adverse environmental impacts to a mega sprawl plan that will increase the population of a small rural community by over 850%.
TOMORROW night (Jan 5) council will be hosting an update about the Environmental Assessment. It is open to the public to learn first hand the status of this key process. It's from 5-7pm at the Springwater Administration Centre - 2231 Nursery Road.
Although this meeting was originally slated to be just for council, our new council, in the name of transparency, has opened it to the public. A good first step. We applaud council for recognizing that the citizens have a right to be fully informed.
We still firmly believe that this mega-sprawl development will irrevocably harm an internationally significant and globally rare wetland and our fresh water resources as a result. Furthermore, it destroys our productive prime farmland for ticky-tacky houses. If you feel the same, please continue to share our petition, write letters to the Premier and join us.
Together, we are better.
Here's to a year full of positive change!
