This spring things seemed to be looking up as the NS government, partly in response to pressure from you and this petition, pulled back a little on its use of forest biomass for power generation. However, now the same government has reduced key forestry commitments in its revision of the Natural Resources Strategy. As detailed in the attached publication, the government has abandoned clear-cutting reduction, the prohibition of whole tree harvesting and the ban on herbicide use. As we speak, glyphosate is being sprayed on major areas of Nova Scotia, to favour soft woods while eliminating all broad-leafed species! Please write to Premier McNeil, Minister Hines, and Minister Miller expressing the all too valid concerns about the future of Nova Scotian forests.
