Robinson Family Agrees to Sell Land for Springbank Project

More than three years after the Government of Alberta approved the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir , the Federal Environmental Review Agency is still asking the proponent (Alberta Transportation) "What if the proposed SR1 were to fail?
Today, January 29, 2019, the Alberta Transportation Minister announced that the Government bought (with taxpayer money) 188 hectares which brings 20% of the needed land under government control, adding, "This is a significant step forward for the project and I'm confident we will successfully complete this project for flood mitigation".
The answer to the CEAA safety question should have been provided before the government purchased any land. While this ranching family were willing to sell, resistance to SR1 remains strong.
The flood danger is the most critical issue for Calgary and our province. CEAA directed that the Tri-River Joint Reservoir of Alberta and the Micro-Watershed Impounding Concept be studied as Alternative Means. Please contact your government representatives and councilors to ask this be commenced as soon as possible. Please study the website www.preventingalbertafloods.ca and sign this petition.
