Why the Tri-River Joint Reservoir would protect from spring flooding to Bow River Basin Rivers.

80% of the waters reaching our rivers comes from glaciers and snowpack. Spring floods in the Bow River basin rivers are usually caused by heavy rains falling on a late snowpack, causing the water to rush down the steep mountainsides. These fast-moving flows become an uncontrollable torrent and erode banks, remove trees, pile debris along our riverbanks and parks and devastate river communities. TRJR, being in the most eastern valley of the mountains before the Elbow, Highwood and Sheep rivers emerge into the foothills, would enable management of the destructive flows and allow the slower moving lower sections of the rivers and streams to flow safely through river communities. By holding back the flood threatening waters from these three rivers in this flow-through water bank when necessary, the Bow River could pass more safely through Calgary.
