Jet Skis - Lobbying the State Govt.

Hi All,

As mentioned previously Council has asked the Victorian Government to introduce a range of safety & control measures. However, the Minister for Fishing and Boating is ignoring Council/Community requests and refuses to acknowledge the huge jet ski volume problem we have at Rye (& other coastal places) at this time of year.

Please let the Minister know you want action (feel free to copy this post) by emailing her at jaala.pulford@parliament.vic.gov.au

and asking that she act in the best interests of the majority of beach & water users by:

·       Implementing trial jet ski no-go zones adjacent to Rye Foreshore, (The Pillars and Safety Beach Foreshore & other places impacted by jet skiers)

·       Expanding the Swimming Only Zones at Rye & other popular Peninsula Beaches. Note: Rye has the smallest swimming only zone on the Peninsula!

·       Introduce a trial jet ski-only pathway zone past the five-knot shared waterway zone

·       Increase the required distance between the operation of a Jet Ski and other water users to 25 metres
