I had the priveledge of meeting with Federal Shadow Minister for Health Catherine King this week. Catherine responded to the petition in April, releasing a statement which announced Labor’s support for the petition and commitment to enacting a nationwide ban. During our meeting, Catherine King reiterated her personal commitment to seeing a nationwide change. We discussed the importance of a strong response to the issue which addresses not only the formal/therapeutic forms of the gay conversion movement, but also the damaging messaging that insists that LGBTQ+ people are somehow ‘broken’ or ‘need healing’. It was an honour to meet Catherine King in person to discuss the issue and I feel very encouraged to know that the Labor Party are committed to action. Chris Csabs
