Hi supporters!
I flew to Melbourne recently to meet with Janet Rice and also with some advocates from The Brave Network. Meeting with Janet was so encouraging. I'd like to express the warmth with which she welcomed me and the genuine interest that she has in the experiences of survivors of conversion therapy. She reaffirmed The Greens commitment to a national strategy to combat ‘Gay Conversion’/SOCE (Sexual Orientation Change Efforts). We also discussed the importance of any strategy involving input from survivors as well as encompassing more than a legislative ‘ban’ - for any government action to be truly effective in stopping gay conversion therapy, a ‘ban’/legislation is one step in a much broader response. I also met with a representative for Victorian Health Minister Jill Hennessy to discuss Victoria’s response and the current state-wide inquiry into gay conversion therapy. NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard’s representatives recently requested more information about how the issue is being dealt with in Victoria, and so this will hopefully help to spur on a (much needed) response in NSW. You can email Mr Hazzard here to request him to formally respond to the petition. https://www.nsw.gov.au/your-government/ministers/minister-for-health-and-minister-for-medical-research/ Thank you for your continued support for this campaign. Please continue to share the petition as widely as possible. Together, we will see nation-wide change!
