Wednesday, 28 May 2005. Some of us have just returned from a peaceful rally in Sydney's east to mark 600 days since the hostages were brutally ripped from their homes and communities in southern Israel by Hamas, triggering a war that has created misery for Israelis and Palestinians.
Every day, and especially today:
- We hold each remaining hostage in our hearts, lighting a candle, giving voice to each name, remembering each family.
- We pray boldly for a miracle that Hamas will surrender, release the captives and end this hellish situation now for all affected.
- We pray fervently for wise discernment and the political will on Israel’s side towards resolving a seemingly impossible situation.
- We pray in deep sorrow, but with steadfast hope.
- We pray individually, and as a collective, for each hostage and their loved ones.
- Our hearts go out to all who are trapped, struggling, despairing in this conflict.
Meanwhile, we hear horrific stories from freed hostages, and also stories of incredible courage and the will to go forward in hope.
Some stories of hope involve the healing power of music.
