Power2Play: Prioritise Children’s Right to Play in England.

Power2Play: Prioritise Children’s Right to Play in England.
The Issue
Play is not just an activity; it's a fundamental right of every child. It plays a significant role in fostering good relationships, promoting mental health, and nurturing creativity. Play allows children to explore, experiment and interact freely in diverse settings. However, the importance of play is often overlooked in our education system and society at large.
According to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), play is recognised as an essential right for all children (Article 31). Yet, many children are deprived of this basic right due to various societal constraints.
We need to prioritise play as an integral part of childhood development. By doing so, we can foster creativity among our young generation which will lead to a more innovative and creative society.
Therefore to sustain children’s access to the opportunities needed to inspire their entrance into associated career choices later in life, we must be appreciative of the ever-evolving social, cultural and economic landscape. With this in mind it isn’t surprising that the very creators of generative AI are emphasising play as a significant tool and area of focus.
If we want to truly achieve in this changing world, with AI advancing at a rapid pace, we will need to prioritise children’s opportunities for creativity, with flexibility of mind and adaptability nurtured through free play.
Let's put PLAY at the heart of childhood by advocating for policies that promotes PLAY for all children across communities.
