Hello everyone!
Tyson continues to have more outbreaks than any other meat company; on Monday, another Tyson worker, Jose Ayala, died, and just yesterday (May 28th), 555 more cases were confirmed at the Storm Lake, Iowa plant. All the while, Tyson refuses to be transparent with its workers or the public. Venceremos president Magaly Licolli has heard from workers that they still feel unsafe working at the plants, and that Tyson is not doing enough to protect them, despite Tyson’s public relations department repeatedly telling the public that its workers are its top priority.
Tyson’s own executives are painting the opposite picture of what workers are dealing with. “Yes, I would.” was Tyson Foods Senior Vice President Hector Gonzalez’s response during an interview in which the reporter asked if he would feel safe going into work at Tyson’s Goodlettsville, Tennessee plant, which has at least 345 cases of coronavirus and has never been shut down for even a deep cleaning. We have a hard time believing that, Mr. Gonzalez.
On April 28th, Venceremos helped to deliver nearly 200 worker petitions to Tyson Foods demanding protections and transparency of COVID19 cases at the plant, and to provide testing to workers to assure their safety. It’s been a month, and Tyson continues ignoring the workers’ demands, and continues publicly hiding the number of cases, and risking more workers to get sick. They continue lying and pretending they care for their workers.
We demand Tyson be more transparent about what is happening at its plants!!
Today, May 29th, Venceremos is staging a Caravan for Justice for Poultry Workers. Join us as we fight against the injustices against our workers and communities by protesting at the George’s Hatchery Plant in Springdale, Arkansas, drive our cars in a caravan (Caravan for Justice) to the Tyson Berry St. Plant, and protest there as well! For more information, be sure to follow Venceremos on Facebook.
Please support these efforts remotely by posting to Tyson’s Facebook page! Be sure to use the hashtag #StopLyingTyson in support of our Caravan for Justice!
Example 1:
@TysonFoods, please start treating your workers with the same respect you claim to in your PR campaigns. If they are essential workers, treat them as such! #StopLyingTyson
Example 2:
@TysonFoods claims to be treating its workers well, but the reality is that they’re not. Workers are still suffering, and it’s time for Tyson to live up to its word. #StopLyingTyson
As always, thank you so much for all of your support of these workers!
