Portland State University Building Access 24/7/365 for Students

Portland State University Building Access 24/7/365 for Students
The Issue
Students deserve access to buildings we pay for 24/7/365. For too long students only have accesses to PSU buildings from 7:30am to 9:30pm. This is impeding to students who need access to multiple building after hours.
We understand that non-student, faculty, or staff access after 9pm potentially dangerous but we as students deserve access to buildings to further improve our academic endeavors.
In casual conversation with peers it’s understood that the workload that comes with the quarter system is intense and necessitates multiple hours per class (outside of class hours and PSU business hours) for designated study time.
This is a multi-disciplinary issue. Music students lack access to practice rooms, STEM students and Social Science students lack access to quiet spaces other than the library, student housing, and homes.
Given that PSU advocates for commuting and non-traditional students, we believe it’s imperative to allow all walks of life spaces to study outside of the home.
We ask that you share this with all students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members to gain enough support to take this issue to Ann Cudd and the Administration. We understand that change takes time but we’re committed to making PSU a more welcoming and inclusive campus!
