Por un Rototom sin represión: queremos respuestas

El Rototom Sunsplash no es solo un festival de música. Durante años ha defendido la paz, la libertad, la diversidad, la convivencia y los derechos humanos.
El propio Rototom, en su Decálogo del Respeto, afirma que: «La promoción de la paz y de la igualdad entre personas, así como el respeto a los derechos humanos forma parte de la filosofía del Rototom Sunsplash».
Y añade: «Si eres testigo de una situación de acoso o abuso de poder, no dudes en contactar con nuestro personal de seguridad. Denuncia.»
Por eso, ante lo ocurrido durante la edición de 2026, tenemos una pregunta que el festival debe responder:
¿Qué ocurre cuando quienes deberían ayudarnos son precisamente quienes están cometiendo ese abuso de poder?
¿A quién se acude entonces?
El reggae nació como una voz de resistencia frente a la opresión, reivindicando la libertad, la dignidad, la paz y la justicia, especialmente para la gente negra. Por eso resulta especialmente doloroso que, dentro de un festival que lleva esa cultura como bandera, tantas personas hayan vivido este año un ambiente marcado por el control, la intimidación y la represión.
Qué ha ocurrido este año
Durante estos días hemos conocido numerosos testimonios de asistentes que denuncian cacheos invasivos, intimidaciones, tratos vejatorios, agresiones, comportamientos racistas y abuso de poder, tanto en relación con la seguridad privada como con actuaciones de las fuerzas de seguridad.
Especialmente preocupante fue lo sucedido en el camping en la madrugada del sábado 22, donde, según numerosos testigos, personal de seguridad privada redujo a un chico negro y ejerció una violencia que quienes presenciaron los hechos consideran desproporcionada contra él y contra las personas que acudieron a ver qué estaba ocurriendo.
Posteriormente, se inició un procedimiento judicial contra el chico reducido y contra otra persona que estaba grabando el incidente, acusándoles de haber agredido al personal de seguridad. Los testimonios y vídeos disponibles apuntan a una versión muy diferente de los hechos y hacen especialmente necesario que se esclarezca lo sucedido. En el lugar había instalada una cámara de 360º cuyas grabaciones podrían aportar pruebas fundamentales. Sin embargo, hasta el momento, la organización del Rototom no se ha pronunciado sobre nuestras peticiones de que se conserven y revisen dichas imágenes.
La función de la seguridad debería ser proteger, prevenir y desescalar los conflictos, no provocarlos ni convertirse en una fuente de intimidación, humillación o violencia.
Por otro lado, la Guardia Civil ha informado de un amplio dispositivo de seguridad durante el festival, con 25 detenciones y 977 denuncias administrativas. Estas cifras muestran la magnitud del dispositivo de control desplegado este año y, junto con los testimonios recogidos, plantean preguntas que deben ser respondidas: cómo se realizaron los controles, qué protocolos se aplicaron y qué mecanismos existían para proteger a las personas asistentes.
Son numerosos los testimonios sobre cacheos invasivos, malos tratos y abuso de poder dentro del recinto del festival. Algunas personas relatan haber sido cacheadas incluso por debajo de la ropa o haber sufrido tocamientos exhaustivos en zonas íntimas, en espacios públicos y a la vista de familias y menores.
No cuestionamos que un festival de estas dimensiones necesite seguridad. Cuestionamos qué ocurre cuando quienes deberían garantizar nuestra seguridad se convierten en fuente de miedo, humillación o violencia.
Queremos que se investigue qué ha ocurrido.
Por eso exigimos:
1. Una declaración oficial y pública sobre lo ocurrido durante la edición de 2026.
Queremos que el Rototom se pronuncie sobre los testimonios y denuncias que están surgiendo, explique qué sabe sobre estas situaciones y comunique qué medidas piensa adoptar.
2. Una investigación transparente e independiente de los hechos denunciados, incluyendo tanto las actuaciones de las fuerzas de seguridad como las de la empresa o empresas de seguridad privada contratadas por el festival, especialmente en relación con agresiones, racismo, cacheos invasivos, amenazas, malos tratos y abuso de poder.
3. Que la empresa de seguridad privada investigue y rinda cuentas sobre la actuación de su personal.
Quienes ejercen funciones de seguridad y tienen poder sobre las personas deben estar sujetos a protocolos, supervisión y rendición de cuentas. Si se acredita que se han incumplido los protocolos o vulnerado derechos, deben asumirse las responsabilidades correspondientes.
4. Transparencia sobre el modelo de seguridad del festival y garantías para víctimas y testigos, incluyendo información sobre las empresas contratadas, sus funciones, protocolos de actuación y mecanismos de supervisión, así como la conservación de las grabaciones y demás pruebas relacionadas con los incidentes denunciados.
5. Un compromiso firme para que esto no vuelva a ocurrir, revisando los protocolos de seguridad y garantizando mecanismos accesibles e independientes para denunciar posibles abusos en futuras ediciones.
No queremos renunciar al Rototom. Queremos recuperarlo.
Hacemos esta petición porque creemos en el Rototom y en lo que representa: música, convivencia, libertad y diversidad.
Queremos que esos valores estén presentes también en los accesos, los controles, el camping y cuando quien tiene el poder lleva un uniforme.

For a Rototom Free from Repression: We Want Answers
Rototom Sunsplash is not just a music festival. For years, it has stood for peace, freedom, diversity, coexistence and human rights.
In its Respect Charter, Rototom itself states: “Promoting peace and equality between people, as well as respect for human rights, is part of the philosophy of Rototom Sunsplash.”
It also states: “If you witness a situation of harassment or abuse of power, do not hesitate to contact our security staff. Report it.”
Therefore, in light of what happened during the 2026 edition, we have a question that the festival must answer:
What happens when the very people who are supposed to help us are precisely the ones committing that abuse of power?
Who do we turn to then?
Reggae was born as a voice of resistance against oppression, standing for freedom, dignity, peace and justice. That is why it is particularly painful that, within a festival that carries this culture as its banner, so many people have experienced an atmosphere this year marked by control, intimidation and repression, especially Black people.
What happened this year
Over the past few days, we have heard numerous testimonies from festival attendees reporting invasive searches, intimidation, mistreatment, assaults, racist behaviour and abuse of power, both involving private security and the actions of law enforcement.
Of particular concern was what happened at the campsite in the early hours of Saturday the 22nd, where, according to numerous witnesses, private security personnel restrained a Black man and used violence that those who witnessed the events considered disproportionate, both against him and against the people who approached to see what was happening.
Subsequently, legal proceedings were initiated against the man who had been restrained and another person who was recording the incident, accusing them of assaulting security personnel. The available testimonies and videos point to a very different version of events and make it especially necessary to establish what actually happened.
There was also a 360º camera installed at the scene whose footage could provide crucial evidence. However, so far, the Rototom organisation has not responded to our requests for these recordings to be preserved and reviewed.
The role of security should be to protect, prevent and de-escalate conflicts, not provoke them or become a source of intimidation, humiliation or violence.
On the other hand, the Guardia Civil has reported a large-scale security operation during the festival, with 25 arrests and 977 administrative complaints. These figures demonstrate the scale of the control operation deployed this year and, together with the testimonies collected, raise questions that must be answered: how were the searches carried out, what protocols were applied, and what mechanisms were in place to protect festival attendees?
There have been numerous testimonies concerning invasive searches and abuse of power within the festival grounds. Some people report having been searched even underneath their clothing or having experienced extensive touching of intimate areas, in public spaces and in view of families and children.
We are not questioning the need for security at a festival of this size. We are questioning what happens when those who are supposed to guarantee our safety become a source of fear, humiliation or violence.
We want what happened to be investigated.
Therefore, we demand:
1. An official and public statement about what happened during the 2026 edition.
We want Rototom to address the testimonies and complaints that are emerging, explain what it knows about these situations and communicate what measures it intends to take.
2. A transparent and independent investigation into the reported incidents, including both the actions of law enforcement and those of the private security company or companies contracted by the festival, particularly in relation to assaults, racism, invasive searches, threats, mistreatment and abuse of power.
3. That the private security company investigate and be held accountable for the actions of its personnel.
Those who perform security functions and hold power over other people must be subject to protocols, supervision and accountability. If it is established that protocols were breached or rights were violated, the corresponding responsibilities must be assumed.
4. Transparency regarding the festival’s security model and guarantees for victims and witnesses, including information about the companies contracted, their functions, operating protocols and supervision mechanisms, as well as the preservation of recordings and other evidence relating to the reported incidents.
5. A firm commitment to ensure that this does not happen again, by reviewing security protocols and guaranteeing accessible and independent mechanisms for reporting possible abuses at future editions.
We Do Not Want to Give Up on Rototom. We Want to Take It Back.
We are making this petition because we believe in Rototom and in what it represents: music, community, freedom and diversity.
We want these values to be present also at the entrances, during searches and controls, at the campsite, and whenever those who hold power are wearing a uniform.
