دعوة تأييد لضبط التقويم القبطي وتعديل مواعيد الأعياد 

قبل أن يطلق نيافة الأنبا سرابيون مطران لوس أنجلوس رسالته الأخيرة بشأن إقامة صلاة قداس عيد الميلاد لبعض كنائس الإيبارشية ونحن نرى أمامنا هذه المشكلة التي تخص أبناء كنيسة الإسكندرية العريقة (القبطية الأرثوذكسية) والتي لم تعد كنيسة محلية منغلقة على ذاتها في مصر بل كنيسة عالمية تمتد خدمتها لكل بقاع الأرض وأتباعها يعيشون في كل القارات، ويعاني أولادها في قارات أوروبا والأمريكيتين وأستراليا من اختلاف مواعيد الاحتفالات الغربية عن مواعيدنا في مصر.

ولما نظرنا لكتابات وشروحات آباء أفاضل وباحثين محترمين بخصوص التقويم القبطي (تقويم الشهداء) الذي تتبعه كنيستنا في تحديد أصوامها وأعيادها، ووجدنا أنه بحاجة إلى ضبط وتعديل كما حدث للتقويم الميلادي -(اليولياني).. نسبة للأمبراطور يوليوس قيصر، وتم تعديله في عهد البابا جريجوري في 1582 وصار اسمه الجريجوري- فإننا ندعم هذه الخطوة التي جاءت عن دراسة وبحث بشكل أكاديمي وليس بحسب الهوى بل وفي حالة ضبط التقويم سيرتاح أبناء كنيستنا في دول المهجر بخصوص مواعيد الأعياد.

وبناء على ذلك فإننا ندعم خطوات أبينا قداسة البابا تواضروس الثاني في ترتيب وإدارة أمور الكنيسة ونصلي أن يعطيه الله نعمة لفعل ما هو خير للكنيسة، وندعم تأييده لنيافة الأنبا سرابيون في الخطوة التي اتخذها بشأن موعد الاحتفال بعيد الميلاد ونرى أنها مجرد بداية تحتاج لخطوات أخرى.

ونطالب بشكل واضح بـ:

1-   إطلاق قداسة البابا الأنبا تواضروس الثاني دعوة للمختصين والدارسين والباحثين لضبط التقويم القبطي، ومعه سيتم تعديل موعد كافة الأعياد نهائيا.

2-   عدم ترك المجال للمتشددين والمتحجرين والمتطرفين ليفرضون علينا تصوراتهم الضيقة وأن يتم وضع حد لهذا وأن تكون الكلمة الفعلية للدراسة بشكل أكاديمي وعلمي في الموضوعات التي تخص إدارة الكنيسة وطقوسها والأمور اللاهوتية.

إننا نقدم هذه الدعوة ونطالب كل أبناء كنيستنا بالتضامن والتوقيع عليها لدعم قداسة البابا تواضروس في إطلاق يد المختصين بكنيستنا لتقديم أوراق بناء على حسابات علمية لضبط التقويم القبطي، وذلك من أجل سلام ووحدة كنيستنا ووحدة كل أبنائها في كل مكان بالعالم، وأن تراعي ظروف الجميع واحتياجاتهم، خاصة أن التقويم ليس أمر عقيدي ولا طقسي بل فلكي علمي بحت (ورغم ان الطقس يتغير أحيانا فإنه لن يتغير أو يتأثر بضبط التقويم)، كما إننا لم نعرف موعد الاحتفال يوم 7 يناير إلا منذ 1882 عندم احتل الإنجليز مصر وعدلوا التقويم الميلادي ولم يتم نفس التعديل على التقويم القبطي. كقول السيد المسيح في إنجيل مرقس: "ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمُ: «السَّبْتُ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ لأَجْلِ الإِنْسَانِ، لاَ الإِنْسَانُ لأَجْلِ السَّبْتِ." (مر 2: 27)

A call to support amending the Coptic calendar

Before His Eminence metropolitan Serapion of Los Angeles, launched his last message regarding holding the Christmas eve liturgy services for some of the diocese churches on the 25th of December we encountered some resistance. This problem that belongs, which is of interest to the Coptic Orthodox faithful, no longer just concerns a local church in Egypt but rather an international church that extends her services to all parts of the earth with followers from around the world including Europe, the Americas and Australia. Those faithful suffer because of the variance between the dates of Western calendar from s Coptic counterpart.

When we looked at the writings and studies made by respected researchers and members of the clergy, concerning the Coptic calendar that the church follows in determining its fasts and feasts, we found that it needed to be adjusted akin to the Gregorian calendar. The Gregorian calendar was modified during the era of the Pope Gregory in 1582 and hence was named after him. We support this step, which is based on academic study and research, and this will enable the faithful in the diaspora to have a sigh of relief regarding the dates of feasts.

Accordingly, we support the steps of our father, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, in arranging and managing the affairs of the Church, and we pray that God will give him a blessing to do what is good for the Church. We also support his blessing of His Eminence Anba Serapion in the step he took regarding the date of celebrating Christmas and we see that it is just the beginning.

We have the following requests:
1 - Holiness Pope Tawadros II may launch an invitation for specialists, scholars and researchers to ammend the Coptic calendar, and with it the date of all holidays will be permanently adjusted.

2 - To restrict the militants, and extremists who impose their narrow perceptions on us, and to put an end to this allowing the decisions to be dictated by the works of academic and researchers on issues related to church administration, rituals, and theological matters.

We present this invitation and call on all of our church members to respond in solidarity and to sign this petition supporting His Holiness Pope Tawadros in empowering the church specialists to submit papers based on scientific calculations to set the Coptic calendar. This will be a step towards peace and unity of our church and the unity of all its children everywhere in the worldaking into account the circumstances and needs of everyone. This of importance particularly due to the calendar is not being a doctrinal or a theological matter but rather a purely astronomical, noting that we have not known the date of the celebration on January 7 except since 1882 when the British occupied Egypt and modified the Gregorian calendar while the same amendment was not done to the Coptic calendar. As Jesus said in the Gospel of Mark: “The Sabbath was made for the sake of man, not man for the Sabbath.” (Mark 2 : 27).
