Just thought I’d give a quick update:
I met with Mr Martin on Friday afternoon and I think we had a positive conversation. I was aware at the last election a police officer ran for the LNP but I wasn’t aware that the ‘Police Station’ in Sunnybank area was one of the LNPs promises.
I am generally not a political person, so this petition was started based on my own personal experiences living in this area probably longer than most, and my own interactions both in person and online about the change in the area. Obviously, everything become political these days but I am just a concerned community member who had reached my breaking point and instead of doing nothing I wanted to try and do something myself, whether that resulted in change or not, I felt it was my duty as a community member to speak up.
As I said, the discussion with Mr Martin was positive and he has advised there will be a number of new police starting in the near future and there will be use of a mobile police van used in the area to demonstrate police viability and work (similar to what you see in Brisbane City sometimes).
I am going to leave this petition up, as I don’t feel it is right to close it, but I am going to take a backyard step from this as I feel I have done all I can for the moment. The only other option is I believe the SBH area used to have a Neighbourhood Watch group which disbanded a few years ago so this could be restarted however it requires a handful of volunteers in the area so this may be something to keep in mind. In addition, unfortunately I have to support my mother who was recently diagnosed with cancer so hence I feel at this stage I have done all I can. If others feel like stepping forward in relation to this cause, feel free to sign the petition or share it with friends, or organise a meeting with Mr James Martin’s office (quick Google search can reveal his best contact details).
Thanks again for supporting this.
