Hiding behind heartless bureaucracy is an insult to Luke’s memory. Let’s make our voices too loud for them to ignore…
We are absolutely gutted. Whitsunday Council has officially rejected Luke’s permanent memorial in Airlie Beach again. Even worse, they completely ignored YOUR support. In their response, there is ZERO mention of the document we sent containing your public comments and stories supporting the memorial like their own community doesn’t even exist. They state “the location is of significance to Luke’s family and friends” only.
Council claims Luke’s brutal killing isn’t “historically significant” How dare they⁉️
- Luke’s death is profoundly unique: No other tourist has ever been killed by police in the Whitsundays.
- It is historically significant to every resident and visitor for that exact reason.
An Airlie Beach resident has now launched an official petition urging the Whitsunday Regional Council to reconsider Luke’s memorial, and we need your signature to prove the community demands change.
