Permanent Memorial Application - Following the removal of Luke's memorial cross from the place where his life was taken less than 24 hours after it was installed on what would have been his 28th birthday, we have formally applied to Whitsunday Regional Council for approval of a permanent memorial in Luke's honour.
The cross was meant to be a place where family, friends, and community members could reflect, remember, and pay their respects. It's removal following a complaint and request to remove was deeply upsetting for us and for many people who have supported our family throughout this journey.
Our application seeks approval for a permanent memorial that will provide a lasting place of remembrance and recognition of Luke's life. We have been overwhelmed by the support shown by the community and are grateful to everyone who has stood behind this proposal.
QCAT Proceedings Continue - We have now lodged our submissions in both of our ongoing Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) matters.
- The first matter relates to our continued efforts to obtain CCTV footage that we believe is critical to understanding the events leading up to Luke's death.
- The second matter concerns evidence relating to the prosecution of former Constable Bryce Collins who committed crimes against Luke without our family being informed.
These submissions represent many months of preparation, legal research, and persistence. We will continue pursuing every lawful avenue available to ensure transparency and accountability.
Other ongoing actions - In addition to the matters above, we also continue to pursue separate complaints through relevant oversight and human rights bodies. While we are not yet in a position to discuss the details publicly, these processes remain active and are progressing through the appropriate channels.
