"Not unless you vote the Board of Trustees out and reinstate the Indians"

A Letter from Heather Disselkoen:

Last week, it was reported at the Board's Special Meeting, the communities' votes were to decide the top three finalists with the Board having final decision. Today, in an ISJ article, the district reports the mascot selection committee will "use the survey as a reference in making a final recommendation" to the Board. A committee handpicked by one administrator. A committee with no Native American representation. A process fast tracked in 4+ weeks despite Board members claiming on 09/15 that the June 1st retirement date was (in part) so that the community could take time over the next several months to come together, heal, work together and choose a mascot. A process that ensured a small group retained as much control in the selection process as possible with a perfunctory survey for the citizens before they make their recommendation. Is it no wonder why so many feel there is no representation? THIS is yet another example of the hastily made decision making processes that typifies the district and provides yet another reason among the many, many, many reasons why people support the recall.
