STOP THE STATE RACISM IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

The Issue

This petition is addressed to the Prime Minister of Haiti, Mr. Ariel Henri, his Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jean Victor Geneus, and the President of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Luis Abinader.
Our compatriots are experiencing the worst version of human rights violations in the Dominican Republic in the 21st century. Daily, Haitian migrant workers are reminded about a horrible, shameful, and unacceptable situation in DR; the massacre of tens of thousands of Haitians by Rafael Trujillo from September to October 1937 in the DR. Which is the new expression of state racism and anti-Haitianism practiced by the Abinader regime.
It is common in the Dominican Republic for children, pregnant women, elderly, and people with disabilities to be cowardly murdered (lynched, burned, beaten, tortured) by officials and civil society members who acted on hateful speeches by senior officials of the Dominican State. In many cases, Haitians are victimized simply because of their skin color or being Haitian.
The migrant workers are underpaid and have no rights. Often, migrant workers do not receive the pittance that their bosses own them for months. When they revendicate, they call immigration officials to detain and deport them, so they do not have to pay a dime. Both Haiti and the Dominican Republic signed and ratified the United Nations charter and international conventions relevant to those cases of human violations. Thus, they are obligated to respect them or face sanctions.
As members of civil society in general and #HaitianDignityMatters, we submit this petition to express our deepest dismay at the indifference of Haitian authorities to the atrocities suffered by Haitian visiting or living in the Dominican Republic. We invite the Haitian authorities to use all the ways and means provided by international law and bilateral diplomacy so that these abominations cease immediately against our compatriots in the Dominican Republic.
Finally, we call upon all citizens of the world to turn an eye on what is happening to Haitians and people of color in DR in the 21st century and judge for themselves if this is a place to vacation/visit, given the degree of atrocious human rights violations practiced by the Abinader's administration in Dominican Republic.
