The South Korean national, Ban Ki-Moon stepped down from his role as Secretary-General to the United Nations at the end of 2016. During his time in office, we ran a campaign asking for him to personally take action to help stop the dog and cat meat trades in his home country, where millions of these animals are routinely subjected to abusive and cruel treatment. We never received a response from Mr Ban himself, although we did receive a letter from the United Nations. Mr. António Guterres takes over as the new Secretary-General of the UN, from January 1st 2017; we must, therefore, continue our efforts by imploring this new Secretary-General to use his voice and position to speak out against these horrific meat trades.
