Protect the Right to Choose: Keep Cultured Meat an Option

This petition is built on one simple principle: the freedom to choose.

Every day, Americans purchase and enjoy foods created through culturing and fermentation. Yogurt, cheese, kefir, sourdough bread, kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, tempeh, vinegar, pickles, soy sauce, and many other grocery store staples are made using cultures, fermentation, and biotechnology. These foods have been part of our diets for generations.

Innovation in food is nothing new.

Today, scientists are developing a new category of food known as cultivated, cultured, or cell-based meat. This is real meat grown from animal cells without the need to slaughter animals. It is not intended to replace traditional meat. It is simply another option for consumers who may prefer it for ethical, environmental, religious, or personal reasons.

This petition is not about telling anyone what they should eat.

If you prefer conventionally raised beef, chicken, pork, or fish, that choice should remain yours.

If you prefer cultivated meat when it becomes available, that choice should remain yours as well.

The issue is not whether everyone should eat cultured meat. The issue is whether government or special interests should be allowed to remove that choice before consumers have the opportunity to make their own decisions.

By signing this petition, you support:

• The right of consumers to decide what foods they purchase and consume.

• Access to emerging food technologies and innovation.

• Honest labeling that allows consumers to make informed choices.

• A free marketplace where people—not politicians—determine which products succeed or fail.

• The freedom to choose products that align with personal values, beliefs, health goals, and lifestyles.

Throughout history, new food technologies have faced resistance before becoming accepted. Americans deserve the opportunity to evaluate new options for themselves and decide what belongs on their dinner tables.

Whether you plan to eat cultivated meat or never touch it, the principle remains the same:

No one should lose the freedom to choose simply because someone else disagrees with that choice.

Sign today to protect consumer choice, support innovation, and ensure that when cultivated meat reaches grocery stores and restaurants, the decision belongs to you—not to someone else.
