Bilingualism helps to gain different perspectives

Very interesting article in how comparing and speaking two languages (in this case English and German) can shape your view of events. Add that to the research published on the New York Times that shows being bilingual actually makes you smarter! So you don't need to be interested in other cultures or overseas travel or improving your employ-ability to enjoy the benefits of knowing a foreign language. Or one from an University of Chicago study that showed thinking in a foreign language helps to reduce biases in your decision-making. There's even research that has demonstrated that being bilingual can help delay the onset of dementia and other symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Many benefits to being bilingual and none that support cutting a language program without a proven good enough reason instead of promoting it to bring enrollment back up. Please keep ALL languages intact at the HS, grandfather in German for current students and find a way to bring German back for future students. THANK YOU!!!!
