The Issue

The city of Hawthorne, CA, is considering implementing paid or metered parking on initial designated public streets and parking lots as proposed in the Citywide Parking Study of June 10, 2025 by the Public Works-Engineering Division. This proposed recommendation for a paid parking pilot program has sparked significant concern among residents and local businesses. Paid parking can serve as a financial burden for families, individuals, and small businesses already feeling the squeeze from the high cost of living in Los Angeles County, not to mention the insufficient amount of parking around Hawthorne.

  • Mapped red locations are only the beginning, later it will be in your area unless residents sign to oppose before they even begin:             ESPANOLLas ubicaciones marcadas en rojo son solo el comienzo, más tarde llegara en tu área a menos que los residentes firmen para oponerse antes de que comiencen.

Residents do not consent to any paid parking initiatives that could move forward the installation of meters this fall of 2025, as this may give way for Hawthorne city elected officials to later extend paid parking location impositions even further throughout our neighborhoods.

Hawthorne's vibrant community relies on ever free access to local shops, restaurants, and community centers. Imposing paid parking could undermine this access, damaging community cohesion and the financial health of our local economy.

We Hawthorne residents object and do not allow the city to start this parking paying pilot program in our city! NO MORE reasons for PARKING 🅿️ TICKET CITATIONS!

Let's work towards alternative solutions that do not penalize our own residents and visitors. Options such as depermitting ALL residential streets, adding local public transport, or more allocated free residential parking could alleviate current parking challenges without imposing additional costs.

We urge the city council and planning commission to reconsider and retract the proposal for paid or metered parking in Hawthorne's public street or lot areas.

Together, we can preserve the welcoming environment of our city and ensure Hawthorne remains a place where residents can thrive rather than be enforced to pay for parking or get cited with tickets in our own neighborhood.

Please add your voice today to this cause by signing the petition to prevent the city from installing meters and enforcement rollout this coming fall of 2025

This petition will be presented in the August 26, 2025 meeting and thereafter as necessary. Please sign, and share this petition to spread the word before it's too late.
