“Help Our Youth to Continue Use of Behringer Athletic Fields” During Summer Events"

The Issue

Dear Mr. Boynton, Ms. Haraksin, and Mr. Osuna

As the title states: help our youth to continue use of Behringer Athletic Fields, and/or provide/assist with an alternative field location(s).

We the parents and/or residents of La Mirada, Coaches, and LMGSA board members are apprised of the summer closure for Behringer. Beautifying the fields mid-June (sodding/intensive care/exceptional irrigation, etc.) occurs at this time; therefore, disrupts the Softball "All-Star Season". It is not conducive to LMGSA By Laws: "The object of this organization is to provide a program of service to the youth of our community."

We the parents and/or residents, are also aware of the fact, Miriam Curiel, President of LMGSA, in conjunction with other Associations that use the fields, were rejected when proposed to postpone and/or to open a few days early for Football Opening Day. The “annual beautification” takes precedence over the activities for all those active in the summer.

For instance, as stated on the LMGSA website, and as communicated by LMGSA President, Softball All-Stars begins immediately after Closing Day in the Spring, and spans till the end (tentatively) of July. Softball Districts/Qualifiers usually begin in the middle of June, and if the team(s) qualify, then they represent the City of La Mirada at the State Competition, or possibly Nationals.

With that said, a proactive tentative plan is essential. The families, Coaches, and LMGSA Board Members are requesting a compromise, rather than a dismissal.

A work-around is requested from all those who sign this petition to be heard, and for an active resolution to be effective straight away. The closure of Behringer obstructs and hinders the current All-Star Season. If it is too late to request delaying the closure of Behringer, then we propose with your assistance and/or guidance to be able to secure usage at either La Mirada High School, Los Coyotes Fields, and/or any other location within La Mirada till the end of July 2022. La Mirada's Regional Park is not an option as they are completely booked on all fields.

We hope a compromise can be attained, and for all future All-Star Seasons to not have to endure furthermore Behringer closures, or to minimally be provided access to an alternative.

Sincerely,

Parents, Residents, and Coaches of LMGSA
